Port Macquarie Animal Shelter Open Day

UPDATE: Wednesday 01 November 2023

Port Macquarie Animal Shelter has informed us that the Open Day originally scheduled for Saturday, 4th November 2023 has been postponed. The new date will be shared as soon as it becomes available.

Celebrating Three Years of Caring for Our Furry Friends

Port Macquarie Animal Shelter is throwing open its doors for a special . It will be held on Saturday, 4th November 2023 from 10 am to 12 pm, marking its third anniversary. This first-ever Open Day promises a fun-filled morning for families and pet lovers alike at 27 John Fraser Place, in the front car park area

A Glimpse into Pet Adoption

The highlight of the event will be offered every half an hour. It’s a fantastic opportunity for potential pet owners to meet the animals awaiting their forever homes. In addition to this, dedicated rangers from Port Macquarie Hastings Council will be on hand to shed light on their vital role and share insights into responsible pet ownership.

Empowering Pet Owners with Knowledge

Joining the festivities will be local community groups. They’ll provide valuable information sessions on early intervention, basic training, and even intriguing koala avoidance demonstrations. And for the little ones, there’s free face painting. It’s a wonderful way to add a splash of colour to their day.

Treasures Await Freebies and Prizes!

Excitingly, attendees can also look forward to freebies and the chance to win lucky door prizes. What’s more, local businesses will be setting up stalls, offering a one-stop shop for all your pet supplies and services.

The Key to Happy Reunions: Responsible Pet Ownership

Emmalee Andrew, the Council’s Animal Shelter Team Leader, emphasised the importance of responsible pet ownership. She stated, “The best way to ensure a dog or cat is returned home to its owner is to have them microchipped, registered, name tagged, and if possible, desexed. It is also vital that owners keep their contact details up to date on the NSW Pet Registry.”

Milestones in Animal Welfare

Since taking over the shelter three years ago, the Council has made significant strides in caring for our community’s beloved animals. This is a gesture of gratitude. It’s also a celebration of the milestones achieved together with the community, local organisations, professionals, and pet owners

Celebrating 1000 Happy Tails

With between 60-80 animals coming into the shelter each month, it’s heartening to know that around 40% of them are successfully reunited with their owners. In fact, earlier this year, the shelter celebrated its 1000th adoption, a testament to the hard work and dedication of all involved.

A Day for Every Pet Lover

So, whether you’re a seasoned pet owner or considering bringing a furry friend into your family, this Open Day is not to be missed. Join us in celebrating three years of love, care, and compassion for our four-legged companions.
